 President Obama in his Weekly National Address has announced that the Department of Energy will award $2 billion to two solar energy companies: Abengoa Solar (Spain) and Solar Manufacturing (USA). Additionally, Obama added that the planned project would create about 1,600 new American jobs plus the 70 % involvement of the construction components and products manufactured in the United States. |

Spanish telecoms operator Telefonica is in thought of drawing in Internet search companies like Google, Yahoo for network use.
In the press conference President of Telefonica Cesar Alierta pointed out the fact of Google using network bandwidth for free. This is an advantage for them but not for Telefonica. Additionally, Cesar Alierta emphasized the ability of his company to provide customer care, product sale, maintenance to search engine companies that could benefit from using them.The same time Telefonica spokesman Miguel Angel Garzon mentioned about already existing network services that are provided around the world, therefore the idea of Alierta is not new any more. |

The Spanish Science and Innovation Ministry is directed to invest over EUR 138 into a new dark fibre network, called RedIris Nova. The idea of the project is to represent a change in the current leased circuits system and increase the transmission capacity up to 100 Gbps. The preliminary date for completion of the project is 2013. |

Narva Power Plant that is a subsidiary of Eesti Energia announced an offer for building an autonomous thermal power plant with one or two energy units with a capacity of 300 or 400 megawatts. According to the financial estimations and conditions, the interested applicants are obliged to have an average net turnover no less than 3 billion Euros in the last 3 financial years. The applications will be available till 17 September. |
